Festivals Emerge
Reading and Leeds Festival
The Reading and Leeds festival began as a Jazz and Blues festival in 1961 and continues today. While the festival has largely deviated from the Jazz genre, the festival is still a widely successful music event that brings in millions of dollars yearly. With the AC/DC first appearing in 1976, and Aerosmith first appearing in 1977, the Reading and Leeds festival slowly moved from the Jazz scene and entered into the world of Rock n' Roll. Today, the Reading and Leeds festival hosts many Rock n' Roll bands as well as some Rap and R and B acts.
The Woodstock Music Festival of 1969 was the first major Rock n' Roll Music Festival to take place in the United States. Although the festival initially dealt with management problems, it was still able to book many famous artists, like Jimmy Hendrix, and it brought in millions of dollars
